35th Annual World Championship Chili Cookoff – Reno, Nevada 30th Sept 2001

Nachos Chili Team Roving Report – 2nd Oct. 2001

Competed in the WCCC in the Red Chili division here in Reno on Sunday along with 115 others excited cooks. All of us were winners already in our respective regions spreading all over the USA and around 6 other countries.

The weather was great and so were the brews of Chili. The aroma around the competitor’s tents was pungent as were the display of colours and characters!

We were given 3 hours to cook up our own unique concoction. Our Samples were collected and distributed out on 5 preliminary judging tables. The top 5 Chili’s from each Prelim table then moved to the Final table of 25. Unfortunately to report, we just failed to move to the Final table thus ending our Chili Campaign for this year.

The title was won by a guy from California who took home the 1st prize of $US 25,000 and the prized Bronze World Chili Champion pot.

We met so many wonderful people of here who were so happy an Australian entrant would travel so far to be part of all the fun and competition.  So much so that a group of about 12 or so of the best Chili cooks are planning to visit OZ and attend our National Cookoff next March.  We were very honored to have this opportunity and look forward to the next crack at the title. See you all back home soon. Till then…
